Or you could get a step by step surf course at Portugal's famous SURF ACADEMIA, where every session gives results and will turn you into a better surfer.
Some approaches are definitely cheaper than others. If you want a little more than just a little holiday fun, instructions by a qualified and certified surf instructor are definitely the best way to go. You will not only see faster results, but your technique is corrected at an early stage.
Proper instructions could also be the recipe for insuring that you don't get hurt.
